The 40th Anniversary of 9093 Micheal Graves iconic kettle. Alessi presents two new versions of the iconic 9093 kettle by Michael Graves, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. A well-deserved celebration of one of the most iconic and recognisable objects in the history of contemporary design, capable of transcending eras, styles, and generations while retaining its playful and refined charm.
Today, in 2025, the kettle celebrates its 40th anniversary with two new versions, both featuring an elegant all-black finish that enhances the iconic silhouette and creates a lively contrast with the orange bird-shaped whistle. The electric MG32TC variant is equipped with temperature control, designed to expand its range of uses. By allowing water to be heated to precise temperatures, it supports more versatile applications: from properly infusing your favourite teas and herbal blends to cooking noodles, preparing powdered milk, or making baby food.
Paying homage to the cultural roots of the 9093 kettle, when the required temperature is reached the chirp of an American Robin can be heard, while the iconic bird adorning the spout serves, in this version, as a splash guard if the kettle is over-filled.
The second new variant, 9093 BB, is the classic version of the kettle in the new all-black finish, paired with the bird-shaped whistle, in orange.
The 9093 kettle is much more than a design object: it is a demonstration of how a product can generate cultural, social, economic, and environmental impacts, reflecting Alessi’s vision, values, and approach to business.
A cultural, social, economic, and environmental impact. On a cultural level, the 9093 has brought art and poetry into industrial design, becoming a global icon. It is part of the permanent collections of 18 modern art museums – including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London – and has appeared in 26 international films and TV series. In 40 years, it has sold over 2 million units (2,036,453), becoming part of the daily routines of millions of people around the world.
The social impact is reflected in the care for work and people. The production of the kettle has generated nearly 500,000 hours of work over 40 years at the Alessi factory in Crusinallo. Each piece requires 61 production operations, many resulting from the ingenuity and craftmanship. developed within the company. In total, about 100 people – including designers, engineers, workers, printers, cleaners, and packers – contribute to its creation.
The economic impact of the 9093 is equally significant: it has generated over 52 million euros in revenue, distributed fairly and sustainably.
Seventy-six percent of the value has been allocated to Italian suppliers, 21% to employees, 0.6% to the State, and 1% to shareholders, following a logic of value creation and sharing.
Finally, the environmental impact is addressed through concrete commitment: the kettle is made from 100% recyclable materials that are easily disassemblable, all sourced from Italy. The choice of stainless steel, the product’s durability, and the absence of technical obsolescence ensure a long lifespan, helping to reduce environmental impact.
The 9093 embodies the idea that even an everyday object can carry beauty, meaning, and responsibility.
