For more than 140 years, leading global sailing brand Helly Hansen has created innovative and performance-driven apparel to weather the world’s harshest environments. Continuously at the forefront of technical sailing apparel, the Norway-based brand worked closely with offshore sailing professionals to further develop and update its Ægir Ocean collection, delivering the Ægir Ocean Jacket 2.0 for Spring/Summer 2025.
Through working directly with ocean racing professionals – including round the world record breaking sailor, Thomas Coville and GUYOT environnement Team Europe, competitors of the latest Ocean Race – the 2.0 Ægir Ocean Jacket launches with an updated fit, features, and Helly Hansen’s most waterproof fabric to-date, HELLY TECH® Professional, completely free of PFAS chemicals. Helly Hansen’s designers, materials and R&D teams, and pattern makers worked together closely to deliver lab-tested technologies and more refined articulation of the garment allowing for improved movement, comfort, and range of motion.
The advanced HELLY TECH® Professional 3-ply fabric features a multi-layered composite membrane that is highly protective and fully waterproof, constructed without the use of PFAS chemicals. By using premium quality recycled nylon yarns originating from recycled fish nets, the face fabric is even sturdier and promises sailing-grade performance. Furthermore, HELLY TECH® is windproof, breathable, and uses PFC-free durable water repellency.
Adding to the Ægir Ocean Jacket 2.0 is the new modular 3-piece collar. The fixed collar houses a packable hi-vis hood with a transparent UV-protective visor, while an additional and easily detachable collar extension includes a face mask to suit ocean sailors’ needs, up to the most extreme conditions. To enhance ease of use, the advanced front YKK AQUASEAL® two-way access zipper is completely waterproof, removing the need for a placket. The now seamless shoulders ensure even less chance of water leaking through your layers.
Rounding out the list of jacket features are tight latex seals at the wrists to guarantee water stays outside, and a newly added silicone grip leash for mobile phones to minimize drop risks. Hi-vis detailing and SOLAS -grade reflectives maximize visibility and safety.
