The Adirondack chair is a timeless expression of outdoor enjoyment, and Americana, created in collaboration between Landscape Forms and Loll Designs, is a reimagining of the concept—modernizing the classic design language and using sustainable, high-performance materials to make a bold visual statement while ensuring the chairs stand the test of time in public spaces.
Offered in both single and double lounges, Americana’s form factor is wider and taller than traditional Adirondack chairs, aiming to enhance comfort, offer a greater range of seating positions, and aid ingress and egress. Generously sized to ensure comfortable spacing between sitters, the Americana double lounge leans into this casual demeanor, bringing a new spirit of togetherness to an established icon of communion with the outdoors. Accessories for Americana lounges include a hanger underneath the arm for secure bag or purse storage and an optional tablet arm, which provides a wider surface for food and beverages or serves as a functional work surface.
A hallmark feature of Loll Designs furnishings, pre- and post-consumer recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE) is used to sustainably provide Americana’s seating surface a long, vibrant, and low-maintenance life outdoors. Because of this longevity, durability, and lack of need for maintenance, HDPE is used in countless practical applications, and single-use milk jugs—something that is too often destined for the landfill—make up the bulk of Loll’s post-consumer recycled material. An estimated eight recycled milk jugs are given new life in every pound of Loll material, and since 2005 the brand has diverted and recovered over 135 million milk jugs from landfills for use in beautiful, modern outdoor furniture like Americana.
Americana’s understructure is crafted using commercial grade cast and extruded aluminum supports finished with Landscape Forms’ proprietary polyester powdercoating to resist fading and chipping. Known as Pangard II, this finish is free of lead and hazardous air pollutants (HAPS), does not generate hazardous waste, and contains less than 1% volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Once processed, these trace VOCs are fully inert, therefore the finish does not release airborne contaminants.
In total, Americana lounges contain up to 36.9% pre- and post-consumer recycled content depending on product specification. Americana ships using 100% recyclable packing materials and, at the end of a long, hardwearing life, Americana itself is 100% recyclable. Americana helps receive credits under the LEED 2009 Rating System including the MR Credit 4: Recycled Content for its use of pre- and post-consumer recycled HDPE. SCS Global Services has independently assessed the cradle-to-grave carbon footprint of Americana based on ISO 14067:2018, finding that the total carbon footprint of the product is 454 kg CO2e per each functional unit.
