As part of Kohler’s 150th-anniversary celebration, the global design leader partnered with four artists, each recognized for their boundary-breaking artistic practices. The talented creators were provided carte blanche to bring their visual expressions to Kohler’s products – the Numi 2.0 smart toilet, Brazn sink, and Brazn bathtub. Each product within the collection will be offered in a quantity of 150, honoring Kohler’s anniversary year. This new Artist Editions collection celebrates women of exceptional talent and diverse backgrounds.
Kohler’s Artist Editions products date back nearly four decades and bring beauty to everyday rituals – pushing boundaries of decorative processes and material sets, helping consumers express personal style in their spaces. Inspired by marrying visual art with manufacturing craftsmanship, Artist Editions sinks, bathtubs, and toilets are adorned with beautiful textures, intricate patterns, abstract illustrations, and picturesque landscapes. The offering also showcases Kohler’s innovative use of specialty glazes and noble materials. Kohler is dedicated to creating a space for the cross-section of artistry and craftsmanship in our industry.
This is Aranya which means Forest. A limited-edition artwork created by Ms. Pushpa Kumari in partnership with Kohler. The artist beautifully crafted 19 artworks in the Mithila style, depicting various trees and the vibrant flora and fauna. Using only a pen and ink on paper, she envisioned a culturally rich and observant world, infused with intuitive sensitivity. To bring these artworks to life on our products, the KOHLER team meticulously transformed her hand-drawn elements into high-resolution scans. These scans were then skilfully composed onto the Numi 2.0, Brazn sink, and Brazn bathtub, ensuring that the compositions harmonized with the forms of our products. Additionally, in celebration of our 150th anniversary, the Kohler team incorporated heritage colors into the compositions, further enhancing their significance.
Despite being deeply rooted in the traditional Indian style of Mithila, the artwork goes beyond cultural boundaries and resonates with audiences across the globe. Its universal appeal lies in its ability to transcend cultural and geographical barriers, captivating viewers from diverse backgrounds. By presenting a contemporary interpretation of the Mithila style, the artwork breathes new life into a traditional art form, infusing it with a fresh and modern perspective. This blending of tradition and modernity creates a dynamic visual experience that engages and intrigues viewers, making the artwork both culturally significant and relevant in today’s global context.
