Caraway and their design partner saw this as an opportunity to design a set of essential gadgets that fit in your life (and your drawer), are functional and beautiful, and pass the test of time.
The Caraway Kitchen Gadgets collection was created with the aspirational goal to create heirloom pieces, and designed intentionally using 0% plastic and 100% non-toxic high grade stainless steel, along with a custom FSC-certified wood organizer that presents each piece to the user, every time.
The design of every gadget is informed by research conducted to understand its primary objective and ergonomic considerations. The team developed use-case specific experiences through every form and detail, with the main surfaces and proportions delivering grip areas to provide confidence and control. Ultimately the products and design language of this collection were developed with a positive impact in mind, by design, in the category by removing all plastic, and for the user by elevating the consumer experience.
The Caraway Kitchen Gadgets collection has a consistent approach to the integration of smooth forms with considered touchpoints that provide intuitive and confident touch points and areas of product performance. The high polished stainless steel unibody forms also have the functional benefit of easy cleaning. The design and visual integration of the Kitchen Gadgets with the wooden storage organizer reinforces the premium positioning and overall thoughtful quality of the product collection. The unibody design approach for each piece results in a construction, appearance, and end to end user experience that is unmatched.
Caraway Kitchen Gadgets take an uncompromised single material approach to deliver quality products, partly as a response to the plethora of mixed material competitive products that degrade over time through use. Caraway Kitchen Gadgets are longer-lasting than traditional gadgets that often use plastic and rubber which are often bonded together, preventing post-use recycling. Each Caraway Kitchen Gadget is plastic and BPA-free, with the customer’s cooking experience and health being the topmost priorities. The 18/8 Stainless Steel used throughout the product line is a sustainable material that can be fully recycled to minimize ecological impact. The wooden storage organizer uses FSC-certified maple wood to support responsible forestry.
The packaging design is also an important and thoughtful aspect of the product’s total environmental impact. The Kitchen Gadgets, like all Caraway products, are shipped direct-to-consumers in recycled cardboard with zero plastic bags, and low-impact print dyes.
The manufacturing processes were optimized over a multi-year development journey to create products that are committed to sustainability and quality, balancing user experience, aesthetics, and performance—and we hope this collection sets a planet-positive benchmark for the category as a whole that others will emulate in the future.
