Inspired by modern lifestyles, The Headboard + Cushion configuration of The Bed, by Thuma epitomizes innovative modular design. Starting with The Bed frame, consumers can tailor their bed frame to suit their ever-changing needs and aesthetic by choosing from three interchangeable headboard options.
In part to The Bed’s modular design, The Headboard + Cushion can be purchased with The Bed frame or separately at a later date. One of the key innovations that sets The Bed apart is the precision-cut wood pieces that lock together in place during assembly. Referred to as Japanese joinery, this craftsman technique ensures a seamless assembly process without the need for tools.
This technique not only saves the consumer time, but also provides strong support and durability.
Crafted from the same 100% solid, upcycled wood as The Bed frame, The Headboard’s sculptural form and streamlined design brings unmatched stability to the frame. The Cushion, crafted from high-density CertiPUR-US® certified foam, comes with an interchangeable, washable cover in a wide range of colorways and fabrications, for an added sense of personalization.
The Bed’s Headboard + Cushion is not only a beautiful piece, but it also has minimal environmental impact. The wood for The Bed frame and The Headboard is sourced from trees that have reached the end of their latex-producing lifecycle after approximately 30 years and would otherwise be burned.
Thuma intentionally works with rubber tree plantations located near our makers, minimizing carbon emissions and creating a circular supply chain. Continuing Thuma’s mission of sustainability through mindfulness, The Headboard + Cushion is GREENGUARD Gold certified, meaning the materials used have undergone extremely thorough testing for chemicals, including off-gassing VOCs, formaldehydes, and all aldehydes.
Additionally, Thuma has partnered with One Tree Planted so that each bed sold results in one tree planted, with a special focus on planting trees in Vietnam near Thuma’s wood sourcing, factories, and craftsmen.
