Cumhur Espresso Cup inspired to commemorate and honor the Republic of Turkey on its 100th anniversary. A “modern” collection piece was created by abstracting the iconic elements identified with the Republic and using them in the cup.
The item used in the design is the 16 stars and the Sun symbol, which is the Presidential seal of the Republic of Turkey. In this symbol, 16 stars symbolize the 16 great Turkish Empires in history, and the Sun in the middle symbolizes the Republic of Turkey. 16 stars highlighted the transition that formed today’s Turkey, based on the Turkish Empire. This transition is completed with the crescent detail on the handle and the crescent-star motif on the flag.
The 6 stars on the cup represent Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s Principals: Republicanism, Statism, Populism, Nationalism, Secularism and Revolution. Hence Gazi Mustafa Kemal’s signature is at the center of the Republic, which symbolizes the power of modern Turkey. Gazi Mustafa Kemal’s signature is also founded in the center of the Sun, at the midpoint of the Turkish Empires.
The form of the cup is designed in a simple and modern style, representing the Republic. With the crescent detail on the handle and the red color on the inside which refers to made to the crescent and star motif on the flag. The star and line reliefs represent the Presidential ensign and the six main principles of Mustafa Kemal.
With the use of the cup during daily Turkish coffee and espresso consumption, it is aimed that the user will have a high-level experience by establishing an emotional connection with the cup. The crescent-shaped handle detail and star-line reliefs on the cup create a simple elegance, and together with the story it tells, makes the product one step ahead of its peers.
