The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo is a futuristic single-seater sports car, conceived specifically for the Gran Turismo® videogame series. It pays homage to Maranello’s rich racing heritage, as indicated by the prominent number 75 on its flanks. This release also marks the culmination of Ferrari’s 75th-anniversary celebrations since the iconic 125 S, the marque’s inaugural racing car, rolled out of the factory in 1947.
This model not only signifies a significant milestone for Ferrari in the virtual realm but also introduces a fresh stylistic language for the company. It serves as a forward-looking design manifesto for Ferrari’s road and racing vehicles, embodying the pinnacle of formal beauty and innovation. It acts as an inspiration for the engineers and drivers, both real and virtual, of the future.
Designed under the direction of Flavio Manzoni at the Ferrari Centro Stile, the Vision Gran Turismo draws inspiration from the legendary Ferrari Sports Prototypes of the 1960s and 70s. These prototypes achieved great success in endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona. With its striking proportions and futuristic lines, the car effortlessly encapsulates the DNA of masterpieces such as the 330 P3 and 512 S. It pays homage to Ferrari’s illustrious racing history while offering a tantalizing glimpse into the future of closed-wheel racing cars.
The design concept revolves around a speed form characterized by sharp, angular lines within an organic shape. This juxtaposition creates a distinctive character, where the plasticity of the surfaces harmonizes with the precision of the lines. The architecture centers around an advanced aerodynamic concept, featuring two significant side channels. This patented solution directs airflow from the front underbody, around the cockpit, and over the distinctive side pods, generating highly efficient aerodynamic downforce.
The rear aerodynamics draw inspiration from the Ferrari 499P, particularly in terms of the diffuser and the rear biplane wing. Additionally, the front S-Duct and integrated air vents on the wheel arches further enhance aerodynamic efficiency and high-speed stability.
The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo boasts a 120-degree 3-liter turbo V6 engine, akin to the one used in the new Ferrari 499P. In this configuration, the engine produces an impressive 1030 cv at 9000 rpm. Three electric motors, one on the rear axle and one on each of the front wheels, provide an additional 240 kW (326 cv). The collaboration with Gran Turismo ensures an accurate replication of the engine’s exhilarating sound, offering SIM racers an even more realistic experience.
The bodyshell appears suspended over the flat, carbon-fiber underbody, which houses all of the car’s technical components. The chassis prioritizes lateral dynamics in on-the-limit handling, and the powertrain layout ensures an optimal front-rear weight balance and an extremely low center of gravity.
The interior design follows a purist, minimalist approach, focusing on functionality and driver ergonomics. The dashboard features clean lines and incorporates transparent high-tech materials, providing a view of the hybrid V6 powertrain. The HMI (Human-Machine Interface) is designed for immediacy and ease of use, allowing the driver to stay fully focused on the road.
