In the future, many products will be manufactured using sheet metal, minimising investment costs for molds. This is due to the reduced number of pieces produced, frequent updates to final products, and the possibility of varied serial production to meet customisation demands.
These factors led to the development of the new L3.G4 fiber laser machine, a cutting-edge technological solution from the Salvagnini Group. MM Design was entrusted with its design and material selection.
Designed to enhance ergonomics and ease of use while ensuring maximum precision and repeatability in processing, the L3.G4 eliminates low-value-added operations and optimises energy consumption.
In designing the L3.G4, MM Design’s designers, in collaboration with Salvagnini’s engineering team, prioritised improving machine accessibility. A large front opening with dual sliding doors facilitates easy inspection, while large observation windows, positioned at an ergonomic height and protected by horizontal polycarbonate safety bands, allow operators to monitor the laser sheet metal processing safely and efficiently.
To improve the operator experience and to keep the machining process under control, special protective glass has been introduced in the door area. The interface area has been positioned to the side of the opening door to allow the operator to control the introduction of the sheet metal into the machine during programming. In this regard, an ergonomic study was carried out to cater for different human percentiles.
The electrical panel and laser source are housed in a dedicated, easily accessible compartment on the side of the machine.
The overall design of the L3.G4 is highly compact, visually reducing the machine’s substantial dimensions. Additionally, it has been engineered to fit within a standard shipping container without requiring disassembly.
The choice of materials, shapes, colours, and graphics aligns with Salvagnini’s “Diamond Bend” Corporate Design, a project initiated by MM Design in collaboration with Salvagnini’s Marketing Department.
