Fresh Guard EnVisionTM revolutionizes egg packaging with an innovative design that goes beyond mere protection, offering numerous advantages for value-added products, especially specialty eggs such as organic and free-range. Our mission as designers was to create an emotional connection between users and the brand by providing a positive product experience.
In-depth research and significant user testing were undertaken to ensure a thorough understanding of all product needs and aspects. The “wow” effect and attractiveness of egg packaging rely on the visibility of the eggs’ condition. Each of the 12 eggs is visible without the need to open the packaging, preserving the readability of the printed product information. The die-cut openings can be customized, and the lithography printing offers a superior visual quality.
The patented deep tray is crafted from 100% recycled fibers. The molded pulp conforms to the shape of the eggs to prevent impact and forms the base of the packaging. To retrieve the eggs, users only need to slide the tray out of a cardboard sleeve made from 100% recycled materials, like a drawer, pulling it slightly to access the first eggs on both sides and further to reach those in the center of the tray.
For processors, the deep tray is generic, without markings, allowing packaging for all types of eggs and all calibers. It is then wrapped in a cardboard sleeve made from recycled fibers, strengthening the packaging while offering four highly customizable marking surfaces in terms of design and cut. The new premium design packaging is competitively priced and easily integrated into the daily operations of processors. The unique molded pulp tray presents remarkable logistical efficiency, generating a 42% space saving in the warehouse and improving SKU management.
Printed sleeves, specific to various egg types, are delivered flat and shaped automatically directly on the production line. For retailers, the sleeve offers an additional 116% marking surface, enhancing its impact on displays, especially on the side faces. The improved strength, laboratory validated, reduces losses and waste compared to any egg carton on the market. This innovation is protected by a patent for the molded pulp tray and two industrial designs for the sleeve and tray.
This eco-designed packaging is recyclable and meets consumer expectations for sustainable packaging. Consumers can simply drop it into the recycling bin, confident that it will be adequately recovered by existing facilities in North America.
