“Gera” chair is inspired by the legacy of artist and Brazilian designer Geraldo de Barros. The chair brings up a delicacy that recalls the unique woodswork that characterises the great designers brazilian history.
Barros was one of the founders of Hobjeto (1955) and Unilabor (1954), pioneering companies in modern design in Brazil, which revolutionised furniture production. Geraldo de Barros sought to create furniture that was both aesthetically pleasing and functionally efficient, adapted to the needs of everyday life and the environment. Through Unilabor, a furniture factory that aimed to democratise quality products, Barros sought to bring design and art to a wider audience, making them accessible to different social classes.
The materials used, solid wood and leather, were chosen for their Sustainability and also very characteristic of Brazilian furniture production by the great master chair designers throughout the history of furniture in Brazil.
The jequitibá wood used, with a responsible extraction certification seal, is a highly resistant Brazilian species that was essential to guarantee the visual lightness of the project, resulting in an extremely thin and light structure with particular rigidity.
The seat, designed to float lightly on the wood, rests on a frame of exceptional finesse. It consists solely of a “sandwich” component in which two layers of leather covers an internal layer of elastic fabric that allows the material to return to its original shape without deforming.
The result is a piece of furniture distinguished by its timelessness.
