Historically, golfers rarely change their putting grips. Today, things are changing. Golfers are more inclined to experiment with new grips, especially to improve their putting. Golf Pride wanted to make a bold statement in this growing corner of the market. Working closely with players, Golf Pride’s Innovation team experimented with a variety of shapes and materials, observing the grip’s effect on putting.
Typical grips are wider at the top, tapering towards the end. They discovered that reversing the taper (making it wider at the mouth of the grip) helped the golfer keep a square face at impact, resulting in more consistent putts.
Golf Pride was onto something with Reverse Taper, so they challenged BOLTGROUP to embody this technology into a compelling product design. The team started by immersing themselves in the Golf Pride brand, products, users, and competition. They conducted a CMF and trend forecast to inform the design process and worked to identify the key brand and product attributes.
The result is a bold visual design to embody the new Reverse Taper tech, expressing game-changing performance from a trusted brand. The curvy silhouette stands out at retail and on the course thanks to branding and graphics that are distinctive and authentically Golf Pride.
Putting is a game of fractions. Recently, many golfers have turned to oversized grips to improve their putting. These larger, softer grips promise a more stable stroke by “quieting the hands”. Today’s oversized grips are limited to simple extruded shapes, which treat both hands as equal. The result for many golfers: an uneven club face at impact.
Golf Pride developed this new oversized grip shape that tapers away from the user, increasing the diameter for the lower hand. This resulted in a more balanced feel, optimizing a better club face angle at impact. When players tested these grips, an improvement in putter face delivery for most participants was observed.
The “Reverse Taper” grip is available in multiple sizes and 3 unique shapes, catering to a wide range of golfers. The grips feature bold graphics that showcase the proprietary tech and accentuate the flaring shape while elevating the brand. Reverse Taper caters to golfers of all skills by providing game-changing performance and industry leading quality at an accessible price.
Minimal single-material packaging is resealable so shoppers can feel the grips without damaging the packaging, which is also 100% recyclable.
