Oral health is not merely about aesthetics—it is deeply linked to systemic health and disease prevention. Scientific research has increasingly underscored the importance of maintaining a balanced oral microbiome, particularly in the niches around the gum line and interdental spaces. These areas, though crucial to overall health, are often neglected in daily hygiene routines, allowing pathogenic biofilm to thrive.
This local, dysbiotic environment has been implicated in autoimmune diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson’s disease, making effective oral care essential for long-term well-being.
Despite the availability of interdental cleaning tools, their complexity and lack of integration into routine brushing habits result in poor adoption. Our Gumliner toothbrush addresses this gap by seamlessly incorporating niche cleaning into a user-friendly design, ensuring ease of use while advancing oral and systemic health. Developed in collaboration with implantologists, periodontists, and designers, this toothbrush bridges the worlds of medical research and product design to create an innovative solution for oral hygiene.
Our design team is built on a foundation of expertise in medical device development, with our more than 20 years of experience creating solutions that enhance both usability and health outcomes. Having worked extensively in healthcare innovation, we understand the complexities of designing simple products that are clinically effective, intuitive to use, and sustainable for long-term adoption.
Leveraging our background in medical technology and production, we applied fundamental principles of ergonomic engineering, ecologically sound materials, and behavioural science to create a toothbrush that makes interdental and gum line cleaning effortless. This approach ensures that our product is not only an advancement in oral care but also a meaningful contribution to preventive health strategies.
At the core of our toothbrush design is the principle of simplicity —an intuitive, elegant solution both in the hand and for storage in the bathroom. It’s a design that removes barriers to effective gum line cleaning while complementing standard brushing habits.
Inspired by the universally recognised simplicity of a pen, our toothbrush ensures a secure, comfortable grip and easiness to manoeuvring with the fingers, preventing unintended pressure and enabling precise movements. This intuitive design encourages proper technique while making gum line cleaning accessible and effortless for users of all ages.
Conventional interdental tools often lack designated storage solutions, leading to disorganisation and contamination in humid bathroom environments. Our integrated clip feature, inspired by ballpoint pens, allows the brush to be securely attached to the toothbrush glass — ensuring easy access, proper hygiene, and a clutter-free routine.
Featuring a smart dual-tip design, this toothbrush has two specialised brush heads. They are located on either end of a slim, ergonomic handle, making it easy to switch between interior and exterior gumline cleaning.
Recognising that oral care needs vary from person to person, the brush tips can be attached to the handle from four different sides. This feature provides four selectable angles, enabling users to adapt to their individual anatomy with ease. The give a new level of flexibility and customisation.
A modular system minimises waste and offers a personalised oral care experience: The interchangeable brush tips allow users to choose softer bristles, a gum stimulation or firmer bristles for a thorough deep clean.
The toothbrush is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a handle made from partially post-consumer recycled polypropylene to reduce the use of virgin plastic, a durable stainless steel clip that remains recyclable, and fully recyclable packaging with components that are easy to separate for responsible disposal.
By simplifying gum care and interdental cleaning, our toothbrush advances multiple health benefits. The design encourages the adoption of Deeper Cleaning brushing habits, and thereby helps to reduce risks associated with Autoimmune Diseases: Proper niche cleaning mitigates pathogenic biofilm accumulation, decreasing risks linked to autoimmune conditions such as diabetes and Parkinson’s disease.
By addressing an overlooked yet critical component of our daily health routine, the Gumliner toothbrush can significantly contribute to a healthier aging and disease prevention. We believe that the Gumliner toothbrush exemplifies the core principles of good design serving human health.
