HP Spectre Foldable is an ultrathin tablet, laptop and desktop in one computer.
It’s a 17″ tablet with a folding display that converts it into a laptop, with a magnetically attached keyboard. The keyboard can attach at the fold, or attach covering just half the screen below the fold, for a dual screen laptop experience. When you need more workspace, it can be a 17″ widescreen desktop resting on its built-in easel stand, using the keyboard wirelessly in front of it.
The designers created an optimized form factor for ultimate flexibility. It’s a 3-in-1: a 17-inch tablet, notebook, and all-in-one. It folds like a laptop, but both the screen and the area where a keyboard would be are one continuous screen. When you use it like a notebook, there’s a magnetically attached keyboard that rests over the lower portion of the screen and turns off its backlight via ambient light sensing. When you use it as a desktop, you move the keyboard in front of the display, fold the display flat, and use its easel to position the display like an all-in-one.
The team also worked with Microsoft to re-architect their software because we created a 1.5 mode, where the keyboard magnetically attaches with the trackpad extending off the front edge of the screen. This gives you a partial display below the fold of the normal laptop view, for more applications, more settings, and more tools for your applications. The keyboard and magnetically attached stylus are included. The computer weighs 1.47kg, with a 13-hour battery life at just 8.5mm thin. 90% of the outer metal covers and keyboard are post-industrial recycled metal.
This is the most portable 17-inch computer ever. HP Spectre Foldable gives users the most amount of portability, flexibility, and screen size to do their work how they want, whenever they want, from wherever they need to be. HP Spectre Foldable is a 17″ tablet, laptop, and all-in-one desktop. It folds to be the thinnest folding tablet, just 8.5mm thin, making it easy to travel with, and easy to work in whichever way is most convenient, tablet with pen, laptop, or desktop.
Users have changed the way they work from in-office to hybrid work, and this isn’t changing. They want to be able to work from anywhere, but a laptop isn’t the most convenient for all kinds of work, and desktops aren’t as portable. By making a 17-inch foldable tablet that converts to a laptop and a dual screen laptop, or becomes a desktop when you need it to be, it meets the needs of customers, however, those needs change.
The changing nature of the Spectre Foldable gives users the freedom to work everywhere with the screen most appropriate for the task. It also makes lightweight, thin, all-day computing a reality. But we also worked with Microsoft, so that when the keyboard is attached revealing half the lower screen in laptop mode, it acts as a secondary display for the user. This gives users more room for applications, settings, and tools for applications, giving more workspace for a user’s actual work. At just 8.5mm thick and 1.47kg, it’s the most portable 17-inch computer ever.
HP Design wanted to make the thinnest, lightest foldable device without compromising on battery life. 13 hours of battery life is exceptional. 8.5mm thin when folded is thinner than other foldables and many laptops. This achievement is a first for this kind of device, and puts HP as a leader for others to follow in this space.
