The Miqona is the first clock of its kind. It embodies minimalism by reducing shapes to their simplest form. Its hand-less and unique 3-disc design pioneers a new way of displaying, reading, and experiencing time.
The design is based on three discs, each with one straight cut from midpoint to edge. The world’s first iconographic time teller is a combination of modular clock, kinetic art object, and functional illumination.
The design stands out by illustrating time through changing colours. The Miqona visualizes the concept of time: past (elapsed time within the hour), present (current time), and future (remaining time until the hour changes). The unique display of the Miqona invites the viewer to pause as it tells the time. This period of conscious awareness allows the viewer to slow down and become present in the moment. The viewer can decide whether he wants to read the time or see a kinetic art object that changes over time.
The credo of the Miqona design is: “form follows function” . There is nothing you can take away without losing function and nothing you need to add to make it work. The user can choose between different colour variants (e.g. Ocean – blue, Cloud – grey, Moon – black), materials and sizes to adjust the Miqona to personal taste or needs. Initially, the discs will be available in 3 sizes: Ø 45 cm, Ø 65 cm, and Ø 85 cm. The wall mount (clock mechanism) is compatible with all sizing options.
All Miqona models will be developed and manufactured by hand to the highest quality standards, in an artisanal manufacturing site in Constance (Baden-Württemberg), Germany. Every part can be repaired or replaced. To ensure recyclability, no composite materials are used.
Reading the time: The time is always read starting from hour wedge, which indicates the full hour. The minutes then begin from the hour wedge.
Hourly Colour Changes: Continuous colour changes are another unique feature of the functional time display. The colour of the clock face changes completely over the course of an hour. The hour wedge provides a preview of the colour that will fill the clock during the following hour.
The Halo (Night Mode): The illuminated Halo is a metaphor for how we are always surrounded by time. The time display glows on the wall behind the clock by way of an LED strip. The time surrounding us becomes visible in the room. An app allows the user to adjust the Halo and the time.
