Pan Pacific Orchard is a prototype for nature-positive vertical urbanism, serving the common good and increasing the amount of nature and biodiversity in the city. It demonstrates a high-density, high-amenity built environment that is more liveable, sustainable and desirable.
The client’s brief called for the redevelopment of an existing hotel into an iconic green high-rise hotel that increases the room-count from 206-350 rooms, intensifying land-use while creating more space for nature and amenities, and innovative venues for events from conferences, product launches, weddings, cocktail parties, fashion shows to children’s birthdays.
Four distinct “precincts” are stacked vertically, with guestrooms and amenities arranged in an L-block overlooking lushly landscaped themed sky terraces – anchored and connected by full-height 9.5m diameter green cores – each sheltering the one beneath it.
The open-air, cross-ventilated yet sheltered sky terraces are designed specifically for Singapore’s equatorial climate, where warm humid air, low wind speeds and frequent, yet unpredictable, heavy rainfall make outdoor events a challenge. These garden volumes have mirrored ceilings that reveal the landscape and activities to the street below.
The signature creeper-clad columns make a powerful green statement. The huge volumes function as giant sunshades to the terrace and rooms, while the reflective ceilings act as thermal mirrors, providing radiant cooling by doubling the surface area of gardens and water.
Each sky terrace provides an innovative, unique themed environment enabling comfortable, semi-outdoor events:
– Forest Terrace: A lush arrival experience featuring trees and waterfalls, and a public linkway connecting Orchard and Claymore Road.
– Beach Terrace: A tropical urban beach nestled in palm groves.
– Garden Terrace: A social space for F&B, events and gatherings amidst greenery.
– Cloud Terrace: A unique venue for special occasions with a fantastic view, capped by a solar canopy with photovoltaic panels and skylights.
Pan Pacific Orchard has achieved the Greenmark Platinum rating, Singapore’s highest environmental certification, by implementing a holistic sustainability strategy with active and passive features.
The bio-centric design achieves a remarkable 300% green-plot ratio, fostering a haven for both people and nature in the heart of Singapore.
