Initially conceived to celebrate the launch of the global Pepsi redesign, our Global Beverage team developed a unique, always-on platform that sets the stage for the future of interactive storytelling.
We saw a common issue: promotional items often shine brightly but can quickly fade after their moment in the spotlight. With the Pepsi Smart Can, we wanted to create a digital portal that embodies our brand’s dynamism. We set out to build a unique way to share content tailored to people’s passions, like music, sports, food, and fashion. Local creators will have the opportunity to collaboratively shape Pepsi-related content that speaks to their communities.
As influencers share these personalised experiences with their followers, the Pepsi Smart Can opens doors to engaging interactions that resonate deeply in today’s digital-first landscape.
Our journey to the Pepsi Smart Can began with a bold vision: to create a canvas for creativity. At first glance, it looks like a simple glossy black soda can, but closer inspection reveals a flexible, 3D high-definition display with built-in audio. When powered up, it transforms into an innovative conduit for storytelling.
Connected to a cloud-based Content Management System, it becomes a portal for sharing custom content with tastemakers and influencers worldwide. By personalising people’s viewing experiences, the Pepsi Smart Can cultivates deeper connections in ways standard screens can’t match. Our ability to refresh content also allows us to create fewer future influencer kits, making it an exciting avenue for ongoing engagement.
The buzz surrounding the Pepsi Smart Can speaks volumes. Unveiled at the Cannes Festival of Creativity in June 2024, we reached 126.4 million people through 31 editorial and social media pieces. With a December launch in the UK, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia, we’re sending 15-20 Pepsi Smart Cans directly to select media, influencers, and partners to share the excitement. As more markets prepare to join in 2025, this bold, creative innovation is redefining how Pepsi connects with people.
