I PARTNERS KOREA (IPK) is a specialized marketing agency in the medical and healthcare industries, boasting expertise in producing medical and healthcare content along with extensive experience in marketing communications.
Collaborating with a global pharmaceutical company, IPK has undertaken a unique initiative to produce fairy tale books tailored for young epilepsy patients. Epilepsy, characterized by a persistent predisposition to recurrent seizures, ranks as the third most common neurological disorder globally, following dementia and stroke, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Despite affecting over 50 million people worldwide, up to 50% of those with epilepsy lack essential treatment. Typically emerging before the age of 20, epilepsy constitutes about three-quarters of all patients, with around 30% being pediatric patients (from birth to 4 years old).
However, in South Korea, there is a notable shortage of educational materials for children recently diagnosed with epilepsy. To address this gap, IPK has developed children’s books specifically designed to help young epilepsy patients understand the nature of their condition and prepare for their future.
Introducing characters like ‘Pola,’ a white baby bear, and ‘Lightning dinosaur,’ personifying epilepsy, IPK ensures that children can comprehend epilepsy without resistance or difficulty. The first book (Vol.1) is titled “The First Meeting with Lightning Dinosaur,” revolving around Pola’s experience and shedding light on the causes of epilepsy. The second book (Vol.2), titled “The First School Life with Lightning Dinosaur,” shares Pola’s story of starting school, emphasizing how epilepsy patients can navigate their school life smoothly.
These books are part of a social awareness campaign rather than a profit-driven venture and are made available for free in hospital waiting rooms. To cater to patients who may find reading challenging due to their age, IPK has included professionally narrated audio books, recorded by voice actors, easily accessible via QR codes. Furthermore, the book contents have been reviewed by ‘The Korean Child Neurology Society (KCNS),’ a respected authority in South Korea. IPK has also created e-books for convenient access, published on the public page of the KCNS website.
Through various formats such as books, audiobooks, and e-books, IPK aims to increase awareness and interest in epilepsy, ultimately making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with epilepsy.
