Over one million baby strollers are sold in the UK each year, over twenty million globally. 95% of these are estimated to end up in landfill within three years.
ReGen is the first fully circular baby stroller designed for the future generation of parents. This group place societal and environmental considerations at the heart of their purchasing decisions; however, they will not compromise on functionality, aesthetics, or value.
True sustainability requires both commercial and environmental sustainability for companies to thrive and grow. ReGen is more than a product, it pilots a new form of business for the company. This new model of ownership for the customer produces significant environmental benefits in a commercially sustainable way.
The stroller is available on lease or with a buy back scheme. At end of use the stroller can be returned to the manufacturer or refurbished by the family to sell on or gift to others. The ability for the user to return or refurbish the stroller with the knowledge that it will go on to serve another family, rather than going to landfill, is key to its appeal.
ReGen does not compromise any traditional stroller features. The modular concept, based around a core long term frame and refurbishment ‘packs’ allows greater personalisation of colour, material, and wheel options at purchase. The easy fold core chassis is made from aluminium and a glass reinforced mass balanced biopolymer; this material selection ensures the frame is durable enough to last for multiple cycles of use.
The stroller has been designed to last a minimum of five ownership cycles before easy disassembly and component recycling. High wear areas can be easily refurbished after each cycle of ownership to allow use by a new family. All refurbishment components are single material and easily recyclable through domestic waste recycling systems.
Based around the two and a half year average ownership a typical ReGen is expected to be used by at least five families before final disassembly and material recycling.
The single textile used throughout is a hard wearing, machine washable 99% recycled polyester that can be recycled after each refurbishment along with tyres and cosmetic covers. The built in carry bag and an ability to remove all textiles easily for cleaning adds to the stylish functionality of ReGen.
Life Cycle Analysis studies indicate that ReGen has a 66% improvement in sustainability, across all parameters, over the company’s existing products.
