At the core of our upcycled longboard is a rubber sheet made from recycled tires.
It follows the true design of handmade longboards while reducing CO₂ emissions and toxic chemicals.
The eco-friendly wooden upper plate features grip tape inspired by tire treads for secure foot contact.
The lower plate showcases diverse graphic designs, representing renowned brands such as Formula E, iON, and Hankook.
[Concept Story]
Our longboard uses upcycled waste tire rubber for shock absorption, rebound elasticity, and flexibility. This innovative approach also minimizes noise and vibration, ensuring a smooth and pleasant ride. The wheels, developed in collaboration with “Checkerspot,” are made from algae oil-based bio-polyurethane. They provide a stable grip and promote Hankook Tire’s environmentalism and sustainability.
Even though about 1 billion used tires are produced globally each year, products utilizing these resources are limited. Concerns over environmental harm from tire incineration led to the inception of the “re:move” sustainable resource circulation project. The term, derived from “re” and “move,” signifies not only “cleaning up” waste but also our commitment to upcycling things so they can “run” again. To create the upcycled longboard, end-of-life tires were collected, shredded, and converted into sheets for a high-quality inner material. The longboard’s design features three distinct graphics representing brand identities of Formula E, iON, and Hankook. The upper plate, made of eco-friendly wood, incorporates Hankook Tire’s identity with grip tape designed after a tire tread pattern. Collaborating with Checkerspot, a California-based biotech company, we jointly developed a wheel made of bio-polyurethane that is 10% composed of algae oil. In addition to using eco-friendly materials, our longboard is designed for user functionality. The “re:move” project is a testament to a holistic approach for reusing waste tires based on environmental consciousness and craftsmanship.
