NEW DESIGNS 2024 – Kiviya, Aboya, Utami
This year, the Kristiina Lassus collection expands with two new qualities from Pakistan and India. Kiviya, hand-knotted in Pakistan at 36 knots per square inch, is rooted in nomadic hand-knotting traditions. Crafted from hand-spun Afghan wool in natural white and brown, its asymmetric pattern accentuates the rich textures of hand-spun, undyed wool.
Aboya and Utami, handwoven in India using the jacquard technique, embody timeless craftsmanship with effortless elegance. Aboya features a bold tribal motif, while Utami presents a refined, minimalist design that highlights the raw beauty of hand-spun jute. Both are fully reversible, with front and back in inverted colourways, further enhancing the texture of sustainable, rapidly renewable jute.
KRISTIINA LASSUS RUG COLLECTION
Designed for discerning clients who value quality, authenticity, and sustainability, the Kristiina Lassus collection is entirely handmade, with most pieces hand-knotted in Nepal. The 2024 collection introduces accessible new designs from Pakistan and India.
Renowned for their longevity, hand-knotted rugs are crafted to last for generations. Their timeless appeal complements a range of interiors, from modern and minimalist to vintage, bohemian, and classic. The collection is distinguished by its cohesive aesthetic and enduring elegance.
Currently, it features 31 designs in 87 variations.
Materials include hand-spun Tibetan and Afghan wool, pure silk, natural linen, bamboo silk, hemp, nettle, and jute. Each rug is entirely handmade, requiring approximately 16 weeks for production, with made-to-order customisation in size, form, quality, and colour.
The collection has been recognised with multiple Good Design Awards, Green Good Design Awards, and Red Dot Design Awards.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN & GREEN VALUES
Sustainability and ethical craftsmanship are at the core of the collection. Made from the finest natural materials, each rug is crafted with durability in mind, Nepali hand-knotted rugs are designed to last over 50 years, while Indian flatweaves in jute embody a different, more lightweight approach to artisanal weaving, both cultural heritage and artisanal traditions. Environmental impact is minimised through yarn recycling, high-quality dyes, and filtered wastewater systems, with minimum of 30% of production energy sourced from solar power.
As a partner of Label STEP, a non-profit fair-trade organization in the handmade carpet industry, Kristiina Lassus ensures that her production meets certified standards for environmentally sound practices and ethically responsible working conditions. The organisation also empowers artisans through educational programmes, ensuring the preservation of traditional weaving skills while promoting authentic, slow-made craftsmanship.
