Inspired by simple childlike shapes, this furniture collection explores how objects delineate space to create an outdoor room. The product’s DNA includes a series of tapered cylinders reminiscent of sandcastles built along a coastline. Much like a sandcastle, where there is visual variation in height and scale, this collection explores ways to spatially plan and arrange furniture to create fluid use of the outdoors.
The collection includes a series of tables and stools scaled to support interactive outdoor use. The overall height of each table creates a horizontal sight (or datum) line that visually separates leisurely lounge areas from dining spaces. The stools allow flexible use within social seating environments.
Aesthetics & Innovation
In designing the Sandcastle collection, Jones & Partners was inspired by the unifying structure of a sandcastle and how basic outdoor elements – sand and water – could be used to create unique shapes. Sand served as a central element and point of inspiration that resulted in the form of the table and functional detail that enabled the product to stand firmly in place.
The collection uses two tapered cylinder-shaped bases made of aluminum to create five distinct table types with a complementary parasol base. The central column serves as the supporting element for a range of high-performance outdoor top materials including aluminum, fiberglass, solid surface, and porcelain.
Utilizing a unique set of parts (top, central column, and tapered cylinder-shaped base), this system-based product line includes 48 different table types that range in form, size, and material offering. This collection results in a variety of table configurations offered in varying heights intended for outdoor use in both commercial and residential applications.
Built Environment Solution Durability, Functionality & Quality
The modern table collection is offered with a variety of performance-based materials including powder-coated aluminum, smooth fiberglass, porcelain, and solid surface tops. Structurally and functionally, the foundation of the table bases and parasol base utilizes counterweights made from high-performing, water-resistant fabric filled with sand, sourced from a quarry based in South Florida.
This clean, simple modern table design supports the longevity of use and timeless elements that span a wide range of outdoor applications, allowing for work and life seamlessly outdoors. The stool frame consists of rectangular aluminum topped with a soft, integral foam seat. The materials used in the foam construction are water resistant – like a life jacket – and resilient to outdoor elements of heat, cold, and humidity. The soft seat is available in five colors that complement standard aluminum frame finishes. An aluminum seat option is also available in Pavilion’s thirteen, standard aluminum powder-coated frame finishes.
Designed to perform in demanding outdoor environments, Sandcastle brings contract-grade structure to high-traffic dining and lounge spaces – from public spaces to outdoor workspaces to hospitality-with an appealing residential aesthetic. While it is designed to have a visual lightness, the pieces themselves are sturdy and substantial enough for high-wind applications like rooftops and decks. Pavilion’s coating processes couple a marine-grade primer with architectural powder coat paint for a long-lasting, premium finish. Sandcastle is backed by the Pavilion’s limited lifetime warranty.
Made in Miami, this playful new table and seating collection is designed for demanding outdoor environments that exist within hospitality, contract, and residential markets.
