Zumtobel, a leader in architectural and technical lighting, has launched TECTON II, the next-generation modular continuous-row lighting system that sets new industry standards for performance, efficiency, and adaptability. Building on more than two decades of experience with its predecessor, TECTON II integrates advanced LED technology, intelligent control systems, and sustainable design, developed in close collaboration with the renowned Italian design and engineering firm Pininfarina.
TECTON II is engineered for high efficiency and performance. With a luminous efficacy of 210 lumens per watt and a market-leading service life, it ensures optimal lighting quality and substantial energy savings across its entire lifecycle. Its plug-and-play, tool-free design drastically reduces installation times—tests have shown it to be up to 109% faster to install than competitor systems—delivering clear economic benefits for customers.
The system is modular and fully scalable, offering exceptional flexibility for a wide range of applications. From warehouses and production plants to offices, educational facilities, and retail spaces, TECTON II supports various configurations to meet the unique lighting demands of each environment. It also combines general lighting, emergency lighting, sensors, and IoT components in a single integrated platform.
A key strength of TECTON II lies in its backward compatibility. Its new components are designed to work with existing TECTON I infrastructure, making it possible to upgrade legacy systems without complete replacement. This ensures long-term investment protection and keeps existing projects technologically up to date.
Pininfarina’s involvement brought a distinctive design approach to the project, focusing on clarity, functionality, and user-friendliness. The design team emphasised clean lines and intuitive usability while maintaining the robust functionality expected of technical lighting systems. The result is an infrastructure that is visually harmonious and adaptable to a variety of architectural contexts without compromising on performance.
The trunking system offers a 15-pole configuration for flexible signal and power management. With options for multiple DALI circuits and integration of auxiliary functions such as emergency systems or loudspeakers, TECTON II provides solutions for everything from high-security data centres to commercial spaces. Each trunking section supports up to 75 meters in length from a single infeed, with customisable module lengths and an extensive range of accessories to support on-site configuration.
TECTON II luminaires are available in multiple beam distributions (Wide, Very Wide, Narrow, and Medium Shelf) and light colour temperatures ranging from 3000K to 6500K. The luminaires come in both dimmable and non-dimmable formats, with low, medium, and high lumen output options. This flexibility ensures that lighting conditions can be tailored precisely to functional requirements and visual comfort.
The system also supports a wide range of Zumtobel lighting elements, including specialised fixtures and advanced sensor/control solutions. Among the compatible components are the VIVO II, RESCLITE PRO, CRAFT II, AMPHIBIA, ECOOS II, CLARIS evolution, and PANOS III, allowing users to create complex and responsive lighting environments within a cohesive infrastructure.
Sustainability is integral to the TECTON II concept. Developed under Zumtobel’s strict Circular Design Rules (CDRs), the system prioritises resource conservation, ease of disassembly, and recyclability. These guidelines also ensure compliance with future regulatory standards, including those introduced by the EU Green Deal. The system’s use of recycled materials and efficient production in Dornbirn, Austria, minimises its environmental impact from the manufacturing stage through to end-of-life.
The development of TECTON II followed a rigorous research process involving internal teams, sales feedback, and engagement with end users. This process informed the technical and visual choices made during design, ensuring that the final product meets current industry needs while anticipating future challenges. The system is being rolled out gradually through 2027, with expanding capabilities that will enhance its adaptability and user options.
By combining Zumtobel’s deep expertise in lighting solutions with Pininfarina’s refined design philosophy, TECTON II emerges as a cutting-edge platform for intelligent, energy-efficient lighting. It is not just a successor to an existing product line, but a forward-looking infrastructure designed to evolve with technological, environmental, and aesthetic demands. Through this collaboration, Zumtobel has reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and user-centric design in the architectural lighting sector.
