Design Development
As a result of the pandemic, a shift occurred which drove a predominantly in-office workforce to work from home or to a hybrid version of office and home. the designers witnessed the rise of health as a top priority for employees and employers as they sought new ways to promote wellness and productivity. Rooted in these and other key customer insights, the designers developed the Essentials Task Chair in an effort to provide a healthier seating option for both office and home — at an affordable price seemingly unmatched in the industry for a chair of this quality. the designers were able to achieve this by working closely with the suppliers to deliver on the design intent of providing premium ergonomic technology in an economical package. Features include seat height, seat depth, 3-position tilt lock, height adjustable arms, width adjustable arms, and adjustable lumbar support that allow this chair to work with a variety of body types.
This chair affords more workers access to an ergonomic seating solution that could lead to fewer seating related injuries. Fewer health challenges in the workplace means cost savings for the business, higher productivity, and a better work life experience.
Design Language
The refined silhouette of the chair references the human form as inspiration. The chair back is designed to conform to the human body through its subtle, 3-dimensional wrapping curvature. The adjustable lumbar support aligns with the natural curve of the spine to improve posture and reduce tension on the lower back with gradating circular perforations that communicate comfort queues, breathability, and flexibility.
The shape of the arm rests mimics a forearm from the elbow to the hand, providing a familiar form that invites you to interact.
The continuous oval-shaped backrest creates a signature visual design, emblematic of the brand, while communicating durability as it connects to the base with a wide J-bar. The durable, molded foam seat is designed to replicate the shape of a waterfall with the front of the cushion modeled with a large, soft curve to avoid any focused pressure to the back of legs.
