The new model Chicago 1937 of the German brand walter gropius is a chronological and itinerary timepiece of the BAUHAUS Heritage. And a symbol for the relationship and development of both design institutions BAUHAUS & NEW BAUHAUS in the historical context of art, architecture and design.
From the founding of the BAUHAUS in 1919 in Weimar, to Dessau in 1926, to the NEW BAUHAUS in Chicago in 1937 and back to the Bauhausarchiv in Berlin in 1960.
The Institution BAUHAUS is a social and political indicator and a symbol for free ideas & humanistic societies worldwide in One World.
The Chicago 1937’s hour hand is designed in the art nouveau style of the first BAUHAUS Building by Henry van de Velde. The hour hand for the Chicago time symbolizes an airplane and is at the same time a tribute to the public library`s logo and held in Chicago grey. Both the German and the Chicago-time are combined in one common hour hand to overcome these different time zones. And to come closer in mind for the wonderful ideas and ideals of the BAUHAUS from Weimar, Dessau, Berlin to Chicago and the opposite.
