WrapMeUp products are essentially the opposite of a gift. Typically, a person will unwrap a present in order to enjoy it. These novel pieces of furniture need to be “wrapped up” to use.
In early meetings between Giormani and the 100°C designers, the discussions involved the manufacturer’s desire to create objects that are smaller than their typical sofas and lounge chairs, pieces that could even be given as house-warming gifts. 100°C sought to create products that have a lighter eco- footprint.
The WrapMeUp collection was born as an idea to use Giormani’s leather expertise to create a “garment” or “wrap” that could enclose a hollow internal structure. This inside space could be used for storage, something essential for urban dwellers where space is extremely limited. The leather exterior gives the storage unit an inviting softness to enable its use a seating product. The wrap will also be available in more sustainable materials in future editions.
WrapMeUp can be used for sitting as well as storage. This functional duality allows one product to replace two, optimizing the use of energy and materials to keep the carbon footprint to a minimum.
The storage area is accessed by a zippered opening on one side of the leather wrap, giving the products the feeling of luggage and eliminating the need for another solid, heavy element to act as a door. This ties into 100°C’s idea of function without weight. The products are devoid of foam upholstery and have only a thin seat cushion that use 100% Latex foam.
WrapMeUp is available as an ottoman and as a stool. The stool can also be used a pet house.
The product is knock-down for easier and more energy efficient shipping. The internal box is made from bamboo in keeping with its sustainability theme. The leather exterior is secured by zippers and Velcro. Bamboo legs screw into the bottom of the box and secure the wrap in place.
The simple, elegant design of the product and its structure lends itself to an expansive collection of objects for home and commercial use. WrapMeUp is the gift that needs to wrapped up before you can enjoy it.
