The HP LaserJet E700-E800 Series Multifunction Printers (MFPs) are the top-of-the- line, department-class productivity offerings in HP’s new generation of A3 size copier-class MFPs. With the modular design, fresh industrial design, and next generation HP Flow digitalization capabilities, the printers are designed to meet the demands of the modern workforce. Specially designed to bring printing out of the shadows and backroom and into the human path of work, the new HP printers are the top-of-the-line productivity offering in HP’s new generation of full-featured A3 copier-class multifunction printers.
The design team was challenged to give an entirely new identity to the MFP series, while making heavy reuse of underlying mechanical assets. This included creating a new scan experience for the printer’s control panel while rethinking the MFP’s industrial design to come out of the backroom and embrace the world of digital workflow where people are working.
This design successfully combines industrial design, experience design, interaction design, and user research into a flagship case study on the power of design leadership to breathe life into a tired product category. When Design painted the vision and told the story, the partners in marketing and R&D rallied behind this new design approach.
Key design features include:
Fresh new Industrial Design with next-gen design language featuring interchangeable color panels to match office décor and a timeless furniture-like design inspired by working directly with architects and interior designers. New design embraces MFPs moving to a central place in the office.
Modular mechanical design with configure-to-order allows one single print engine to adapt and be tailored to a variety of customer needs and productivity configurations.
A 10-inch touchscreen for page-width document manipulation and a full physical keyboard for data entry at the printer.
HP Flow HW & SW solution to dramatically enhance one-and-done productivity at the printer—no need to go back to user’s PC for post-processing.
