This project introduces a modular and motion-integrated seating system designed to meet the needs of contemporary living. Characterized by minimal aesthetics, slim-profile armrests, and scalable components, the system adapts effortlessly to both compact homes and larger commercial interiors such as hotel lobbies and lounge spaces.
The goal was to create a sofa that offers both visual clarity and spatial flexibility without compromising comfort or quality. The result is a sculptural yet subtle seating solution that functions as both a centerpiece and a versatile furnishing element.
Each module can operate as a standalone piece or be combined to suit changing layouts and room sizes. Configurations include standard units, corner pieces, and an armless centre module for extended compositions. Some modules feature a discreet motion mechanism that enables reclining or extension for added comfort, without disrupting the design’s clean silhouette.
Unlike traditional recliners, the motion system is integrated within a slim frame, maintaining visual lightness. This was achieved through multiple prototypes and close collaboration between design and engineering teams.
The design balances softness with structure. Rounded volumes are paired with minimal stitching and thin black metal arms. Recessed bases and hidden legs create a floating appearance. The neutral fabric palette enhances versatility across residential and commercial spaces. Materials were selected for comfort, durability, and chemical safety.
Designed for daily life and evolving needs, the system supports reconfiguration and repair. Hidden connectors allow tool-free assembly. Ergonomic dimensions were refined through user testing, offering upright comfort and extended lounging. The motion modules increase relaxation without increasing bulk.
The system embraces circular design principles. Modules are replaceable and upgradable, promoting longevity and reducing waste. The internal structure uses FSC-certified wood and recyclable metal. Upholstery is OEKO-TEX® certified and free from harmful chemicals. Glues and finishes are low-VOC.
Production minimises offcuts and uses local suppliers where possible to reduce emissions. Packaging is plastic-free, using recyclable cardboard and reusable fabric sleeves.
The integration of motion into a compact modular format sets this project apart. It challenges the separation between modular and reclining seating. A future-forward service model allows for part replacements and upgrades, shifting value from one-time sales to lifecycle relationships.
Positioned between residential and project markets, the system appeals to users seeking comfort, flexibility, and modern aesthetics. It supports both compact living and hospitality environments. Digital configuration tools and scalable production methods enable broader market reach.
This project offers a new standard in modular furniture by combining form, function, and sustainability in a compact and elegant structure. It invites users to rethink space, consumption, and comfort. More than a piece of furniture, it’s a platform for sustainable, long-lasting living.
