The new SEPTA Streetcar design is a striking blend of tradition and modernity. Inspired by the iconic Liberty Bell, the end cap design pays homage to Philadelphia’s heritage, while seamlessly integrating elements from older SEPTA Streetcars. This fresh, modernised graphic design symbolises a renewal that fits into the daily habits of SEPTA passengers. Alstom’s innovative platform design further enhances the sleek, contemporary look, ensuring the Streetcar stands out as a symbol of progress and innovation.
Accessibility is a cornerstone of the new Streetcar. The full low-floor vehicle design, combined with more well-distributed doors, significantly improves passenger flow and ease of boarding. The widened aisle, thanks to the full longitudinal seating configuration, offers better accessibility to seats, and the integration of a wheelchair ramp ensures that all passengers can travel comfortably and independently. This thoughtful design makes the Streetcar inclusive and user-friendly for everyone.
Technological advancements are at the heart of the new design. The modernised LED lighting system creates a bright and welcoming atmosphere, while the improved air flow system ensures consistent heating and cooling for year-round comfort. Onboard USB connectivity allows passengers to charge their devices during their journey, and numerous information displays are widely visible across the vehicle, keeping passengers informed and connected throughout their ride. These features enhance the overall travel experience, making each journey more convenient and enjoyable.
The passenger experience is elevated with wider windows that allow more natural light to flood the interior, creating a spacious and comfortable environment. Cocoon-type seats provide a reassuring and cozy feel, enhancing the overall comfort and security for passengers. The central, dedicated driver area in the cab offers better ergonomics, an improved field of view, and enhanced comfort, ensuring a safe and pleasant driving experience. Together, these elements create a harmonious and enjoyable travel experience for all SEPTA passengers.
